What does “Explosion Proof” mean?

To meet the criteria for the explosion proof rating, each component enclosure must be able to contain any explosion originating within its housing and prevent sparks from within its housing from igniting vapors, gases, dust, or fibers in the a ir surrounding it. Additionally, these Explosion Proof Collection products also meet the temperature requirements of the specific application in which they are to be installed, per National Electric Code (NEC®) standards. Each component is labeled on its nameplate with the distinct classification in which it has been tested and approved for installation.
